CITY OF THIEVES (2008) by David Bernioff BOOK REVIEW
This novel is set in the Soviet Union during the Winter of 1941. The Nazi troops laid siege to the City of Leningrad. Food was scarce for the general public. Lev ( a central character) is arrested for looting. Kolya ( a central character) is arrested for desertion from the Soviet Army. They both face the death penalty. To win their freedom and their ration cards they must locate a dozen eggs. A Soviet Army officer wants the eggs for a wedding cake for his daughter’s wedding. This is a work of fiction but it does tell the actual conditions inside Leningrad during World War Two.
MY RATING= 10 out of 10 Very well written and researched by the author.
